That’s right. If it were you or me, we’d be in custody and on our way to prison for up to 20 years. But because he was a former president, he’s getting preferential treatment under the law that any other American citizen would not get. And because of the gaping whole in our constitution that doesn’t deal with the matter of a convicted felon’s eligibility to run for president, here’s where we are:
- Even as a convicted felon, Donald Trump is nonetheless eligible to run for president.
- Even if he is sentenced to prison, he can run for president from behind bars.
- Even as a convicted felon, Donald Trump is still entitled to Secret Service protection – in or out of prison.
