There’s been a lot on CNN, MSNBC, and other news outlets about who will win the “Black” vote, Biden or Trump. When we refer to ourselves by our race, that’s “racist”. Identifying ourselves by our color is identifying ourselves by our race, and that is the definition of racist.
Why can’t we just be “poor”, instead of Black poor, Brown poor, or White poor? Why can’t we just be “voters”, rather than Black voters, White voters, or Brown voters? Singling ourselves out solely by our color and subsequently our race makes us racist, just as it makes others who single us out based on these criteria alone makes them racist.
It’s far past time to become just Americans, and not primarily Black, Brown, or White Americans. Equality is in our own attitudes, not just the attitudes of others. Just as equity is in our own hands, and not the hands of others.
